As we celebrate World Telephone Day today, we’re looking back at the milestones that changed the way people connect around the world.
It all began in 1876, when Alexander Graham Bell registered the telephone patent and made the world’s first call. Two years later, South Africa’s first telephone was installed in a Cape Town watch shop. Fast forward 150 years and business telephony has become smarter, faster and far more flexible. Cloud telephony has changed how we work, making remote work possible and providing powerful business insights.
At Euphoria Telecom, we’re proud to play a role in helping South African businesses communicate more clearly and operate more effectively.
To celebrate the day we’ve put together a visual timeline of the evolution of telephony.

Euphoria’s CTO Nic Laschinger also chatted to Hot 102.7 Business’ Jeremy Maggs about the history (and the future) of the telephone and some of the wonderful ways it’s shaped language, culture and the world we live in. Listen to the interview below.
